Making a Difference
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us ensure that our partners are better prepared to manage the unique situations they find themselves in. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it.
AHEC of the Plains
Working Towards a Brighter Future
West Texas AHEC of the Plains is dedicated to supporting our surrounding counties. We are here to help ensure that we will have health care professionals in our area in the years to come. We enjoy working in conjunction with our communities along with building new lasting partnerships to better serve the West Texas area.
CPR Certifications through American Red Cross
We provide all of our 24 counties with requested CPR trainings. We have the capabilities to travel to you or we are setup in our office for trainings as well. We have enough mannequins and supplies to have up 40 participants at a time. We also provide monthly community classes at Plainview YMCA. We can certify for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. Each certification is good for 2 years. Let us know how we can meet your CPR needs!
Mental Health First Aid
AHEC of the Plains is now offering Mental Health First Aid Training to schools, community partners, religous groups, and local businesses. We are striving to bring about awareness and to destigmatize mental health concerns in West Texas. Please reach out to find out more or schedule a training.
Benefits of being trained
Educating yourself and others.
Knowing how to handle situations and when to seek a professional.
Learn to empathize instead of sympathize.
Learn to notice symptoms within other individuals.
Our AHEC strives to bring new and informative information to our health care providers. We do this by coordinating CEUs with Amarillo College and Health.edu so that our providers receive the newest and best research-backed initiatives for them to take back to their places of work. We assist in finding speakers, venues, coordinating dates, providing lunch or breakfast and registration.
Each year AHEC of the Plains partners with the Texas Tech PA Program and UNT/TCOM to assist students with rotations. Building relationships and connections to our rural communities is something we strive for our students.
