About
AHEC of the Plains in Plainview, Texas, was founded in 2002, a community-focused health education and workforce development center dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Partnering with local clinics, schools, hospitals, and community organizations, AHEC of the Plains provides training, continuing education, and pipeline programs for students and health professionals—emphasizing primary care, rural and underserved populations, and culturally competent services. Through outreach, recruitment, and professional support, the center strengthens the local health workforce, promotes preventive care, and helps ensure that residents across the region receive timely, coordinated, and compassionate health services.

AHEC of the Plains is one of the regional centers within the West Texas AHEC network, working alongside centers across West Texas to coordinate health workforce development, training, and community outreach. Together these centers serve the Texas Panhandle, South Plains, Permian Basin, and surrounding rural and frontier communities, pooling resources and partnerships with local clinics, hospitals, schools, and community organizations to expand access to primary care, support pipeline programs for students and professionals, and address the unique needs of underserved populations throughout the region.
